The people in Latin America, the Caribbean and Germany share the same values. They share a belief in human rights, including women’s rights. Yet neither in Latin America and the Caribbean nor in Germany has the vision of a gender-equal society become reality: lack of fair representation, unequal economic participation, sexualised violence, self-determination over one’s own body are issues regularly dominating national debate.

The women's network between Latin America, the Caribbean and Germany has been created to bring together strong civil society partners from Latin America, the Caribbean and Germany to work for gender-equal societies, understanding that gender justice leads to more stable and secure societies. The network is therefore an opportunity to get to know each other, share resources and participate in international exchanges in order to jointly realise the desire to create societies based on mutual respect.

The aim of the network is to strengthen the involvement and leadership of women in politics, the media, society, business and science and to support the exchange between these women and their networks with a view to promoting mutual learning and support between Germany, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The workshops in Salvador da Bahia, Bogotá and Mexico City  served as a way to bring together the founding members right from the beginning as well as their ideas and expertise towards the functioning and structures of the network. The core of the workshop were working session where the founding members dived into questions, including:

What are the most urgent needs and issues that need to be addressed?

What can Germany learn from feminist efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean and vice versa?

How can the work of the network be effectively structured?

How can the network help the members achieve their goals?
